A national educational television program is turning its lens toward Lafayette Parish. Empowered with Meg Ryan has selected the Lafayette Parish School System and the Acadiana Center for the Arts (AcA) to be featured for their innovative approach to expanding arts education across schools.
Production crews visited Lafayette on November 5 to film documentary-style footage highlighting how the AcA/LPSS Arts in Education partnership enriches student learning through creativity, expression, and hands-on artistic experiences. While Meg Ryan was not onsite, the crew captured interviews and classroom engagement that will be included in an upcoming national feature.
Filming began at the Acadiana Center for the Arts, where the crew interviewed program leaders and documented students from Dr. Raphael Baranco Elementary participating in an arts learning experience. The team then traveled to Green T. Lindon Elementary in Youngsville to observe classroom-based arts instruction and record students actively engaging in music, movement, and creative exploration.
The AcA/LPSS Arts in Education program was selected for this national spotlight because of its unique and sustained impact. Through this partnership, thousands of students across Lafayette Parish participate in accessible, high-quality arts learning opportunities that deepen academic understanding, strengthen school culture, and encourage students to see themselves as creators.
“Our work with AcA brings meaningful, joyful learning to students every day,” said Superintendent Francis Touchet, Jr. “This recognition is a testament to the teachers, teaching artists, and program leaders who believe in the power of the arts to inspire confidence and connection. We are proud that others will see what is happening in Lafayette Parish.”
