Illinois State University’s College of Education hosted its annual Future Teacher Conference, welcoming nearly 1,600 high school students from over 100 school districts across the state of Illinois. The event offered students a full day of interactive learning, networking, and exploration of educational pathways all designed to inspire future educators.
“The conference celebrates the teaching profession and helps future educators feel the positive energy of being surrounded by so many others who share their passion for teaching,” said Kelli Appel, director of Recruitment, Retention, and Student Services for the College of Education. “It also showcases the incredible opportunities available through Illinois State’s teacher education programs, giving students a chance to explore potential areas of specialization and confirm that teaching is the right path for them.”
The day began with remarks from Stefanie McLeish ‘07, an English teacher at Buffalo Grove High School and a 2025 Redbird Educator Teaching Award winner, who encouraged students to embrace both the rewards and challenges of the profession.
Participants then explored sessions representing Illinois State’s 27 licensure programs, met current students from education related student organizations, and attended breakout sessions featuring a variety of teaching topics.
