Illinois State University celebrated International Education Week (IEW) from November 3–7, 2025, highlighting the value of global learning and international exchange. Organized by the Office of International Engagement (OIE) and co-sponsored by Event Management, Dining, and Hospitality (EMDH), Career Services, and the Department of Politics and Government, the week reaffirmed the University’s commitment to fostering a globally engaged campus community.
The festivities opened Monday with International Gala Night in the Brown Ballroom, where international and cultural student organizations shared performances and presentations. Students, faculty, and staff came together to recognize these organizations’ contributions to campus internationalization and to celebrate ISU’s global community.
Midweek programming emphasized the academic and professional benefits of international education. Career Services hosted an International Career Open House and a virtual alumni panel, offering guidance on navigating global career pathways and supporting both international and domestic students in their job searches.
A special highlight was the presentation “Pursuing a Career in Foreign Service” by Gordon Duguid, the Donald F. McHenry Visiting Professor in Diplomacy and International Affairs. Duguid’s reflections on diplomacy and public service offered valuable insights for those studying or teaching international affairs, communication, and political science.
“It has been great to be able to celebrate this week with the campus community,” said Matt Schwab, associate director for International House and Special Programs. “We want to recognize all of the great efforts being made by our faculty, staff, and students to connect our institution to the wider world.”
International Education Week reflects ISU’s broader commitment to global engagement as outlined in its International Strategic Plan, which emphasizes integrating global learning into curriculum, research, and co-curricular activities.
The Office of International Engagement continues to offer globally focused programs throughout the year, including the International Faculty Café, International Student workshops, and Study Abroad First Steps sessions.
