Hughes’ Results | Igims’ Results
ALLENDALE, Mich. – Slippery Rock University distance runners Anna Igims and Ruthie Hughes lowered their career-bests in the 5,000-meter run Friday night at the GVSU Big Meet hosted by Grand Valley State University.
Hughes opened things up for SRU in the second of six total sections of the 5,000-meter run when she took seventh in a time of 17:19.00. That time was more than 25 seconds faster than her career-best of 17:45.78 and at the time her race finished was the No. 1 time in the PSAC and the No. 42 time in Division II this season.
Igims then closed out the night by placing fourth in the fastest heat of the 5,000m with a new career-best and NCAA provisional qualifying time of 16:36.79. That effort is the No. 1 time in the PSAC this season and currently ranks No. 9 among all athletes in Division II. The fast section of the race featured 14 women that ran an NCAA provisional time, including four of the fastest 10 times run by Division II runners this winter.
She lowered her career-best by nearly 13 seconds after entering the meet with a personal best of 16:49.33. Igims now owns the No. 1 time in the PSAC in the mile, the 3,000-meter run and the 5,000-meter run this winter.
The two distance runners were the lone representatives from The Rock to travel to Michigan Friday as the rest of the team will compete Saturday at the SPIRE Academy in Geneva, Ohio.
