Career Notes

Barbara Hudock Benner ’75, Chief Executive Officer and Founding Partner of Hudock Capital Group, has been named the recipient of the 2024 Douglas C. Dickey Humanitarian Award by the United Way of North Central Pennsylvania (UWNCPA). The award is UWNCPA’s most prestigious recognition, celebrating individuals whose vision, leadership, and generosity have positively impacted Lycoming, Sullivan, and Tioga Counties. Barbara was honored for her nearly five decades of leadership in financial services and her lifelong commitment to philanthropy. Her firm, Hudock Capital Group, which now manages over $1 billion in assets, has invested more than $7 million in regional nonprofits and actively promotes community support through employee volunteerism and matched donations. The award was presented at the annual United for Impact Dinner & Meeting on October 14, 2024.

Stephen J. Jones ’83, a current member of the board of directors at 374Water Inc., has been appointed Interim President and Chief Executive Officer of the company. 374Water is a global leader in organic waste destruction technology. Jones previously served as President, CEO, and Director of Covanta Holding Corporation (now Reworld Waste), where he specialized in waste destruction facilities and environmental services. Prior to Covanta, he held senior management roles at Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. Jones will also lead the search for a permanent CEO.

Major L. Evelyn Thompson-Dunn Thompson ’90 recently graduated from the Command and General Staff College at Fort Dix, New Jersey. Major Thompson serves as a logistics operations officer with the 28th (M) Infantry Division in the Pennsylvania National Guard.

Victor Brown ’98 has been promoted to Principal of the Chester County Intermediate Unit (CCIU) Learning Center in Coatesville.
Brown, who has more than 20 years of experience in education, previously served as the Interim Principal and Assistant Principal at the Learning Center. His career has included leadership roles in the Wilson and Upper Merion Area School Districts. Brown holds a master’s degree from Gratz College and advanced certifications from Alvernia University.

Daniel Malloy’03M has been hired as the new Superintendent of Schools for the Hanover Area School District. An alumnus of Hanover Area, Class of 1990, Malloy is returning to the district where he previously served as a social studies teacher, assistant principal, and spent approximately a decade as the Junior-Senior High School Principal, starting in 2012. 

Steven Scott ’03 completed a Doctorate of Business Administration from Liberty University in August and accepted a full-time faculty position at East Stroudsburg University in the Business Department.

John Scarinci ’07M just published a book, Martian Baseball League, which is a middle-grade novel that imagines what baseball would be like if it were played on Mars. It’s a mix of STEM-based fiction, sports adventure, and real planetary science—written to inspire kids who love space or baseball (or both). It will be available on Amazon beginning November 25 in eBook, paperback, and hardcover formats.
