A new study suggests that NASA’s intentional crash into the asteroid moonlet Dimorphos may spawn a 100-year meteor shower.
Fireballs could shoot across the sky Wednesday, Nov. 12, right on the heels of the northern lights displaying their wonder over nearly two dozen U.S. states this week.
If conditions are optimal, the Taurid meteor shower will be visible the evening of Nov. 12, and into the early morning of Thursday, Nov. 13, according to the American Meteor Society.
The meteor shower has produced an increasing number of fireballs, which are large explosions of light and color, each year, as previously reported by USA TODAY.
If the skies are clear, the shower is expected to display its best show for stargazers, with meteors streaking across the sky, according to Space.com.

When can you see the Taurid meteor shower?
Taurid meteors can be seen when the constellation Taurus is above the horizon between September and November, according to NASA.
While the Southern Taurids, active each year between Sept. 23 and Dec. 8, already hit their peak last week, the Northern Taurids are active Oct. 13-Dec. 2.
When is the best time to see the Taurids?
The best time to see the activity tends to be after midnight and before dawn.
At this time, the moon won’t interfere with the Taurus constellation, which is where the meteors seem to emerge or radiate from, according to Earth Sky, a website devoted to astronomy and Earth sciences.
Where can you see the Taurids?
The Taurids, which come from the approximate direction of the Taurus constellation, are visible everywhere on Earth except the South Pole.
