TOWN OF POUGHKEEPSIE – The Our Lady of Lourdes High School Career Day has only been held for a couple of years but, based upon the turnout, the exhibitors enjoy being there as much as the high school juniors and senior do.
Christa Maserjian, from the Lourdes High School Office of Institutional Advancement, brought together representatives from several career fields to allow the 350 juniors and seniors to learn about careers from members of the military, the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office, dental hygienists, a Mid-Hudson News reporter, the Dutchess County DA’s office, tourism, and more.
The most popular booth of the day belonged to Sheriff Kirk Imperati. The booth was manned by Sergeant Alonzo Montanya and featured a virtual reality TASER simulator, giving people a chance to be immersed in the high-stress, fast-moving situations that law enforcement may encounter that require the use of force of various levels.
Student athletes Bianka Velavio and Cadyn Anderson gave their try at on-camera interviews for Mid-Hudson News but ultimately said journalism was not likely to be their chosen professions.
