The annual U.S. News & World Report list of the best colleges in the nation is out, and one Connecticut school made the top ten.
The publication releases its ranking of the best colleges every year based on several factors, including academic reputation, cost of attendance and return on investment.
Yale University placed the highest of all Connecticut’s schools, coming in at No. 5 on the list.
Several other colleges in the New England area scored high on the list, such as Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Brown University.

Several New England area universities ranked high on this year’s list of best colleges from U.S. News & World Report. Here are the top 10:

Best colleges in Connecticut, per U.S. News & World Report annual ranking
Connecticut-based colleges fared well on this year’s list of best schools from the U.S. News & World Report, with several making the top 200.
Some schools in the state, including Connecticut College, Trinity College and Wesleyan University, were not ranked in the national universities list because they were categorized under the list of national liberal arts colleges instead.
On that list, Wesleyan University tied at No. 14, Trinity College tied at No. 36 and Connecticut College tied at No. 55.

How U.S. News & World Report calculates ranking for best colleges list
U.S. News & World Report determines its annual best colleges list by evaluating nearly 1,500 colleges and universities using more than a dozen categories of “academic quality,” the publication said in a release.
More than half of a school’s ranking is calculated based on outcome measures like graduation rates and post-graduation earning rates, according to the release.
The rest of the score is calculated using data like faculty salaries, student-to-faculty ratio and standardized test scores.
