Two nonprofit groups that contend natural gas presents a health hazard to residents who use the fuel in their homes have scheduled a series of presentations in Northeastern Oregon.
Ecumenical Ministries of Oregon and StopGas.org are sponsoring the free events.
According to a press release from the organizations, “presenters will discuss the real costs of gas — health, safety, and financial — plus what you can do to protect yourselves and your loved ones.”
The schedule:
• Sept. 28, 2 p.m., Ontario, Four Rivers Cultural Center, 676 SW Fifth Ave.
• Sept. 29, 10:30 a.m., La Grande, Cook Memorial Library, 2006 Fourth St.
• Sept. 29, 5:30 p.m., Baker City, El Erradero restaurant, 2100 Broadway St.
• Sept. 30, 10:30 a.m., Pendleton, Tamastslikt Cultural Institute, 47106 Wildhorse Blvd.
• Sept. 30, 2:30 p.m. Hermiston, Hermiston First United Methodist Church, 191 E Gladys Ave.
Peter Fargo of Baker City, environment and energy program manager for Ecumenical Ministries of Oregon, wrote in press release that because he was concerned about how natural gas could affect his family’s health, and methane’s role as a greenhouse gas, he replaced the gas stove in his kitchen with an electric model.
More information, including a link to a Zoom presentation planned for Nov. 12 at noon, is available at StopGas.org.
