Governor Kevin Stitt is scheduled to hold a press conference Thursday at Eisenhower International School in Tulsa to announce what his office calls “the future of Oklahoma education.”
The announcement comes one day after Ryan Walters officially stepped down as state superintendent of public instruction. Walters resigned Sept. 30 in a letter submitted to Stitt, Senate Pro Tem Lonnie Paxton and House Speaker Kyle Hilbert.

Stitt, who is expected to appoint Oklahoma’s new Superintendent of Education, said Oklahoma students remain his top priority.
“I will be seeking a leader who is fully focused on the job Oklahomans expect: delivering real outcomes and driving a turnaround in our education system,” Stitt said.
Paxton also reacted to the resignation, saying lawmakers look forward to working with Stitt’s appointee.
“The superintendent plays a vital role in shaping our education system and the state needs them to be successful,” Paxton said.
