GENESEE COUNTY, MI — The Genesee Intermediate School District has a new website that provides students and families with information and resources that will assist them as they plan for college or a career after graduation.
The district officially announced the launch of the website on Monday, Sept. 16.
BeyondGrad.org was created by the Genesee Intermediate School District in partnership with the Genesee County College and Career Access Network and the Michigan College Access Network for residents between the ages of 14 and 26.
The website will guide residents to a variety of resources, including college and apprenticeship applications
“Basically, it’s career planning, exploration and training,” GISD Associate Superintendent Eddie Kindle said. “We offer employment support services and skill trades apprentice information. That information is there as well.”
In addition to helping residents apply for college or a trade school, the website connects users with opportunities for financial assistance, including several scholarships.
“There’s also transition planning for students with individualized educations plans or IEPs or 504s, and there’s also resources for young adults who are relaunching their career or college plans,” Kindle said.
The GISD has already helped connect students with many of the resources on the new website, but now these resources have all been compiles into BeyondGrad.org, which Kindle describes as “kind of a one-stop-shop” for residents planning their futures.
Kindle said the website was also created to help with the state of Michigan’s initiative aimed at increasing the percentage of working-age residents with a college degree or skill certificate to 60%. This number was at 51.1% in 2022.
“We just hope that people use it and find it engaging and interesting because where there’s a will, there’s a way,” Kindle said.
