DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) – Dothan has its first Black school superintendent.
Doctor Garrick Askew will take the job if a deal is finalized—which is expected.
Askew comes from Georgia, where he has held several supervisory positions, most recently as operations director in Clarke County.
Askew’s selection ends a sometimes-tumultuous search with board members divided about the hire’s timing.
With municipal elections next month and three board members leaving, some hoped to delay a hire until new members take office in the fall.
Askew was the choice over Dr. Kari McGann of New Jersey.
