FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) – February is Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month.
To begin the month, more than 100 local CTE students put their skills into practice for the 17th annual SkillsUSA Regional Competition on Saturday.
Hosted by the FWCS Career Academy, the event happened from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., at the following three locations:
- FWCS Career Academy’s Construction Trades Facility
- Ivy Tech Community College
- Local 166 Plumbers and Steamfitters Union Training Center
Competition categories included cosmetology, culinary arts, criminal justice, carpentry, masonry, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, welding, automotive, heavy equipment, and more.
The top five students in each category advance to the SkillsUSA Indiana State Leadership and Skills Conference in April.
From there, students who advance from the SkillsUSA Indiana State Leadership and Skills Conference will compete in the SkillsUSA’s National Leadership & Skills Conference held in Atlanta in June.
