Florida State University’s Career Center will hold a conference designed to connect students with 30 distinguished alumni across leading public service organizations on Tuesday, Feb. 18. The Careers in Public Service Conference is open to current students and recent alumni across all majors and class levels.
The Careers in Public Service Conference includes six panels through three concurrent sessions and features 24 distinguished alumni panelists. The event will be held in the FSU Student Union Ballrooms D & E. Attendees can connect with lobbyists, consultants, executives, elected and appointed officials, media, research and public policy professionals from noon to 7:30 p.m. Check-in will be open throughout the conference.
Designed as a career discovery event, the conference offers valuable insights into securing internships and post-graduate opportunities across the broad spectrum of career paths offered through the public service sector. Public service careers focus on improving society, ensuring public safety, enforcing laws, providing essential services and addressing social issues at the local, state, federal and international levels.
“Public service careers span an incredible diversity of roles but remain a sector often less explored and sometimes misunderstood,” said Rob Liddell, assistant vice president for Career Services. “However, it offers unique opportunities for individuals to support important causes, influence positive change in their communities and experience deeply rewarding work that truly makes a difference. Embracing a career in public service means committing to the greater good and finding fulfillment in contributing to the well-being and advancement of society.”
Conference attendees will hear from a dynamic lineup of FSU alumni who have made significant contributions across various public service fields. Daniel Perez (BA ’09), Florida House of Representatives Speaker and Justin Roth (BS ’97), FSU Board of Trustee member, partner at LINK Public Affairs and Chief of Staff for Senator Ashley Moody, will serve as featured opening and closing speakers.
There is also a “Connections and Conversations” networking session where attendees can speak with prominent alumni and representatives from over 15 public affairs agencies.
“I firmly believe that internships, work experiences and networking events like this one are exactly what students need to gain a competitive edge,” said Yasamin Khosh, a junior political science student and Student Foundation Chair who envisioned this type of conference over a year ago. “Bringing together alumni from various age groups, professions and backgrounds for a shared conference has been an incredible opportunity. I am deeply grateful to attend a university where students can bring large-scale ideas to the table and find faculty and staff genuinely committed to making them a reality. Seeing this conference come to life has been incredibly rewarding, and I am hopeful that it will continue to grow for years to come.”
