Fourth Annual Ukraine Fest
MIDDLETON, Wis. (WKOW) — Friends of Ukraine hosted its fourth annual Ukraine Fest at Lakeview Park on Sunday.
The event celebrated Ukrainian culture and traditions with a vibrant turnout. Ruslana Westerlund, director of Friends of Ukraine – Madison, Inc., emphasized the event’s significance amid ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
“As Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine continues into its fourth year, we see a greater need for our community to join together,” Westerlund said.
The festival offered homemade Ukrainian food, including borshch, and a bake sale featuring local delicacies. Performances included students from Madison’s Ukrainian School and the Ukrainian folk group Village Band.
“For Ukrainians, Ukraine Fest is an opportunity for us to take our minds off of what’s happening back home and enjoy time with others,” Westerlund said.
Attendees enjoyed a variety of activities, including children’s games, souvenirs, handicrafts, photo zones, and a silent auction.
The event aimed to foster a sense of belonging for Ukrainians in Wisconsin and educate locals about Ukrainian culture.
