President Jimmy Carter was one of America’s most beloved presidents, his death hits many Americans hard.
Former Alabama State House of Representatives majority leader Ken Guin. On his 18th birthday Guin began his political career in Carter’s footsteps.
“I registered for the selective service I qualified to vote and I qualified to run for delegate to the democratic convention pledged to President Carter., said Guin.
The pose and accomplishments of Carter’s presidency inspiring Guin’s own career as a lawmaker.

Carter’s confidence and honesty were particular examples for Guin to follow saying, “his was always an example that I tried to follow. I tried to do the right thing you obviously analyze a lot of bills and have to make decisions.”
But for Guin who met President Carter a few times, one of the most important interactions was seeing him at church.
Guin said, “I was just always impressed by the courageousness that he would profess his faith publicly.”
Guin also praised President Carter for his political accomplishments such as the Camp David accords but also for bringing a sense of “moral clarity” to the white house he said was lost after the Watergate scandal.
