BENTON HARBOR, Mich. (WSBT 22) — A Sunday morning fire at the Benton Harbor High School football field leaves thousands of dollars in damages.
Upon arrival, the Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety found a golf cart on fire that had spread to numerous pieces of machinery used to lay the new rubberized track.
The fire appears to have started in the golf cart engine compartment and was ruled accidental.
It caused roughly $125,000 worth of damage to the equipment and track.
According to the BHDPS, the school is still hoping to have the track finished soon.
The contractor’s insurance will cover the loss.
