With fall quarter in full swing, Northwestern students are settling into their coursework, reconnecting with student groups, and launching new research projects.

More than one thousand undergraduate and graduate students on the job market were also busy updating their resume, polishing their elevator pitch, and researching employers in preparation for the 2024 Fall Tech Career Fair, held October 7 in the Norris University Center.

More than 40 companies ranging across a variety of tech industries – including Accenture, Caterpillar Inc., Exelon Corporation, Ford Motor Company, PwC, Siemens, Synopsys, and United Airlines — attended the career fair to network with and recruit students for full-time, internship, and co-op positions in computer science, computer engineering, data science, electrical engineering, machine learning, and related disciplines.

“Our goal was to offer a new event in partnership with computer science and electrical and computer engineering faculty to bring companies to campus that want to recruit Northwestern students for tech roles,” said Erik J. Friedman, assistant dean and senior director of Engineering Career Development.

Northwestern Engineering’s David Zaretsky, professor of instruction and assistant chair of computer science Anastasia Kurdia, and associate professor of computer science Chris Riesbeck aim to support students navigating the highly competitive tech career landscape.

“Students come to Northwestern to excel and be at the top of their game, which is exactly what employers are seeking — the best of the best,” said Zaretsky, associate professor of instruction and assistant chair of electrical and computer engineering. “As faculty and leaders, our role should be to help our students launch their careers into the most innovative companies and tech markets by bringing top industry leaders to campus to meet and connect with our students.”
