Here is how you can discover history through New Orleans’ museums.
NEW ORLEANS — August is a month-long celebration of art, history, and culture in New Orleans, thanks to the annual New Orleans Museum Month.
Organized by New Orleans & Company, the program is a collaboration between dozens of museums across the city and offers a unique opportunity for locals and visitors to explore the city’s diverse cultural scene.
With an active membership at any of the participating museums, you receive free admission for yourself and a guest to all other participating institutions throughout the entire month of August.
The list of participating museums is extensive and varied, catering to all interests. You can travel back in time at The National WWII Museum, immerse yourself in local art at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, or entertain the kids at the Louisiana Children’s Museum. Other notable participants often include the New Orleans Museum of Art (NOMA), The Historic New Orleans Collection, and the Contemporary Arts Center (CAC), among many others.
Sazerac House, Vue Orleans, The Great American Alligator Museum and JAMNOLA are not membership-based attractions but are taking part in Museum Month.
In recent years, the program has introduced new features to enhance the experience, such as a Museum Month Passport. This passport encourages visitors to track their museum visits, collect stickers, and engage with the institutions for a chance to win prizes.
New Orleans Museum Month is a perfect way to beat the summer heat and delve into the rich and resilient cultural heritage of the city.
