Former Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins is opening up about his career news as the NFL season wraps up.
Former Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins spent the 2025-26 season with the Atlanta Falcons, but now that the Falcons aren’t in the postseason, he’s officially in the offseason. Thea team’s last game of the 2025-26 run was on Sunday, January 4, with Cousins and Atlanta securing a win over the New Orleans Saints with a 19-17 final tally.
Cousins has stayed active in the NFL in his later years, but he’s of the age when many NFL players decide to retire. Still, during the 2025-26 season with the Atlanta Falcons, the quarterback completed 61.7 percent of his passes for 1,721 yards with 10 passing touchdowns and five interceptions in 10 games, according to NFL research. He also has a single rushing touchdown.
Now that Cousins is in the offseason, he’s making the rounds as a guest studio analyst for the NFL’s AFC divisional round on CBS. Now, he’s breaking his silence about the experience.
Former Minnesota Vikings and Current Atlanta Falcons Quarterback Kirk Cousins Shares Career Update
Cousins took to social media to share his experience from being a guest studio analyst on CBS’s “The NFL Today” during the NFL divisional round of the playoffs, and it was all positive. He’ll be back again on Sunday, January 25, to serve as a guest studio analyst for the AFC championship game.
“Enjoyed the chance to talk ball with these guys yesterday,” Cousins said on Instagram. “What a game we had.”
Followers were quick to comment. “I was so happy you were announcing on the game yesterday,” one said. “Hope to see you back next year Kirk,” another said. “You and Stefanski (have to) get us a good season.”
“You have a bright future in broadcasting but still have 10 more years of playing ahead,” one more said.
Cousins may have a bright future in broadcasting, but right now, he’s expressed interest in wanting to stay with the Falcons. Speaking to reporters after the team’s win over the Saints, he said, “Hard to know. I would like to keep playing, but we’ll see how things play out in March or even after that.” He added, “I would love to be back here. We’ll see how things play out.”
Minnesota Vikings and a Kirk Cousins Reunion
So, Cousins has expressed that he wants to continue to play football in the 2026-27 season. But, would he want to return to the Vikings, and is that even a possibility?
On Sunday, January 18, the Atlanta Falcons announced that they’re hiring former Vikings offensive coordinator Kevin Stefanski as their new head coach. Stefanski and Cousins obviously have a history together from their time together in Minnesota, which makes it more likely that Cousins will stay in Atlanta. The two know each other well and have worked together well in the past.
In a Monday, January 19 feature, Adam Patrick of The Viking Age agrees that it’s less likely, stating, “Now that he’s in Atlanta and he’s already had success with Cousins in the past, it wouldn’t be shocking if he wanted the veteran quarterback to remain with the team for the 2026 season, especially with Michael Penix Jr.’s status for the start of the 2026 campaign currently unknown as he recovers from a knee injury.”
So, the Vikings and Cousins reunion may not be in the cards. But, the Vikings have plenty of be optimistic about heading into the 2026-27 run.
