This is Nicole Guiles’ 19th year teaching eighth grade ELA at Lake Fenton Middle School. She’s the ELA curriculum coordinator for the middle school, student activities sponsor for eighth grade, and she coaches the LFMS cross country and track teams.
What’s been the most rewarding part of teaching?
One of the most rewarding moments as a teacher is a mini exchange program I helped develop for our eighth and ninth grade students. This program involves a group of my Lake Fenton students hosting a Danish student for two weeks and the following year, those students travel to Denmark to stay with that same student in their home. They live with that Danish family, attend school, and take a trip to Copenhagen. Watching the way this program has impacted my students has been incredibly rewarding. They embrace a new culture, language, and broaden their worldview.
What do you like most about teaching in this area?
It’s truly the best job in the world in one of the best districts. There’s a family like atmosphere at Lake Fenton that is really special, and it’s a place where you can feel how much the staff care about the students and their success.
