Megan Ferguson, 25, has been teaching for two years. She teaches third grade at Holly Elementary.
Are you involved with any clubs/organizations?
I am currently the coach along with my parents for the Holly Lego Masters Robotics Team at Holly Elementary. This is my second year coaching the team and it has been such a joy teaching our students about all the tools and skills that FIRST Robotics provides. I love watching the students’ faces light up when they finally achieve their goal in whatever it may be, from coding, to building, and constructing a solution to the challenge.
What’s your favorite thing about working in this area?
My favorite thing about working in Holly is the people and the community. I grew up on the edge of Fenton and Holly so the community has always held a special place in my heart. Both my parents went to school in Holly (my mom attended Holly Elementary where I currently work). I adore all the events and community activities in Holly as well as the overwhelming positive atmosphere that surrounds Holly Elementary.
Who was your role model/mentor growing up?
My parents are both wonderful role models and have inspired me to reach for the stars, treat others with respect, and to always keep an open mind. I have built a strong sense of values, morals, and work ethic throughout my life due to the support I received from my parents. They have always encouraged me to understand the why behind everything I do as well as others. They are the reason I went into teaching. Everyday at work I strive to provide my students with an open minded, positive, and respectful space that is supportive of growth and success no matter how big or small.
