Newer modern workspace helps Erie School District administration staff
The building, at West 19th and Sassafras streets, is a former medical office complex that Allegheny Health Network once used.
Students, teachers, staff and alumni could team up with Erie Arts and Culture to produce a flag and an anthem for the Erie School District.
The Erie School Board is scheduled to vote Dec. 10 on an agreement with the Arts Council of Erie for the four-month program that would culminate with the unveiling of the flag and the song at graduation ceremonies at the end of the school year. The budget for the project is $25,400, according to information included with the board’s meeting agenda.
If the agreement is approved, Erie Arts and Culture, a nonprofit founded as the Arts Council of Erie, will bring together artists and musicians to work with art and music teachers at district schools and collaborate with students, teachers, staff, alumni and families, according to the proposed agreement.
During visits by artists and musicians to schools, students would learn concepts including flag symbolism and symbolism in lyrics, and would discuss their favorite things about Erie and what they love about their schools.
Committees consisting of artists, musicians, students, teachers, staff, School Board members and Erie Arts and Culture members would bring various ideas together and community input also would be sought, according to the proposed agreement.
School district leadership, including the School Board, would have the final say on the flag and the song.
