The Michigan Department of Education released the results of the MiStep testing on Wednesday. According to a story in the Detroit Free Press, state scores are at the lowest in 10 years.
How did the schools in the West Shore service district fare this year?
Schools that reported the highest percentage of students who met English Language Arts standards and scored proficient in or above include:
Pentwater Public Schools at 52.5% for third grade, greater than or equal to 50% for fifth grade and 41.20% for 8th grade students.
Ludington Elementary School third graders performed at 43.80% meeting standards and scoring at or above profiecince. Ludington Elementary’s fifth grade students demonstrated that 44.30 met the state standards. At OJ DeJonge Middle School, eighth graders who showed proficiency at or above state standards totaled 47.80%
At Walkerville Schools, about 50% of third graders met the standards and proficiency thresholds, while 20% of fifth and eighth graders met the standards for their grade level.
Mason County Central Upper Elementary had about one/fifth of its students show proficiency (21.70%). Fifth graders who met or exceeded the thresholds totaled 25.30%. Middle school students in the Mason County Central district tested at 16.60% meeting proficiency standards in the testing.
At Hart‘s Spitler Elementary School, 20.80% of third graders met the standards and demonstrated proficiency. At Hart Middle School, 22.10% of fifth graders and 34.30% of eighth graders were at or above the proficviency standard.
Testing of third graders at Mason County Eastern Elementary School showed about 20% of students at or above their grade level in proficiency and 25.90% of fifth graders making or exceeding state standards in testing. Eighth graders at Mason County Eastern Junior High/Senior High test with 22.20% at the top level and demonstrating proficiency.
Shelby Public Schools’ results showed a proficiency percentage of 15.30% for third grade students; and 25.4)% for fifth graders. Eigh grade middle school students’ proficiency was calculated at 21.30%.
At Gateway to Success, about half of the eighth grade level students met standards and achieved at or above the top proficiency level.
Finally, Baldwin Elementary School’s third grade students tested with about 10% meeting standards and showing proficiency in the English Language Arts. Fifth graders were at 18.90% and eighth graders who met the standards were at about 20%.
