Community, Culture, and Conversation: Ebony Collective Holiday Market Joins Wilmington 1898 Screening {Free}

LEXINGTON, N.C. — The Edward C. Smith Civic Center will come alive with community, culture, and conversation on Thursday, November 13, when doors open at 5:00 p.m. for the Ebony Collective Holiday Market and PBS screening of American Coup: Wilmington 1898.
The free evening event, hosted by a coalition of local organizations, combines a celebration of Black entrepreneurship and artistry with a deep reflection on one of North Carolina’s most pivotal moments in history.
Guests can enjoy hearty appetizers, music, and local vendors offering handcrafted goods and holiday gifts from Black-owned businesses and local artisans. The market sets the stage for the 5:30 p.m. screening of American Coup: Wilmington 1898, followed by a 6:00 p.m. panel discussion featuring:

Organizers say the evening is meant to connect the lessons of history to the strength of community today.
“This event brings people together to honor truth while celebrating creativity,” said organizers from Davidson Local and the Ebony Community Collective. “We want folks to leave inspired—not just by the film, but by the people right here in our community who are building unity and opportunity every day.”
The event is part of a broader effort to promote inclusion, storytelling, and local engagement across Davidson County.
