GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — For the 46th year, the Dozynki Polish Harvest Festival is back in Grand Rapids, bringing three days of Polish food, culture and art to Calder Plaza.
The festival has been held by the Polish Heritage Society of Grand Rapids each year to celebrate and share their culture. Organizers say it’s now the longest-running cultural festival in the city.
Beginning Friday, Aug. 22, Calder Plaza will be full of vendor tents, live music, kids’ activities and food. It kicks off with both the Polish and American national anthems ahead of music, food demonstrations and more.
On Saturday, there will be live performances from a Lithuanian dance group and multiple polka bands.
At the end of the weekend, the Busia Queen—who organizers say represents “the wisdom and spirit of our Polish grandmothers”—will be named. You’ll be able to vote for your favorite contestant.
As for shopping, you can find everything from traditional Polish pottery and jewelry to authentic Polish fashion and blown glass. Both local and out-of-state vendors are being highlighted at the festival.

Of course, an array of food and drink options will be up for grabs throughout the weekend! A full beer tent will feature local brews alongside other drink options. If you’re wanting something savory, there will be plenty of kielbasa, pierogies and golabki.
But if you’re looking to indulge your sweet tooth, there will be multiple paczki-eating contests.
The festival is free to attend. It runs from Friday, Aug. 22 through Sunday, Aug. 24. Find a full schedule and list of events online here.
