SULLIVAN COUNTY, Ind. (WTHI) – Indiana Secretary of State Diego Morales made a stop in Sullivan County on Friday morning to talk with 6th students at Northeast Middle School about the importance of democracy and the voting process.
Students were participating in a “mock election”, where they practiced by casting ballots for their favorite sport. After all of the ballots were cast, Morales had an open floor Q&A with the students. Students asked him questions about democracy, and how he participated in that process to become an elected official.
Morales says that these type of conversations provide a great opportunity to inspire the students, so that they one day might run for office.
“I’m taking this to the next level, to open the doors and pave the way and encourage the younger generation to hopefully follow my lead, and maybe one of them will have my job one day” says Morales.
