Redbud Ice House closed last weekend after a year of business. MaieB Hospitality, the team behind Olamaie, Little Ola’s, and Maie Day, launched the burger spot at 2027 Anchor Lane – the former home of Contigo – during SXSW 2024 with a free showcase featuring Alex Maas of the Black Angels, Jonathan Horstmann of Urban Heat, and more.
Lance Myers’ first solo art show in Austin opens at Wally Workman Gallery on June 7. The UT professor and veteran animator – he’s worked on Space Jam, Anastasia, and Richard Linklater’s A Scanner Darkly and had his shorts shown on HBO and Adult Swim – depicts bucolic subjects with an admirative, traditional tone in “Frequencies in the Static Bloom,” a mix of still life and figurative painting.
H-E-B has partnered with local nonprofit HOME – Housing Opportunities for Musicians and Entertainers – for the summer concert series True Texas Tunes. Launched last month, the series hosts music on the third Saturday of every month at H-E-B’s True Texas BBQ on South Congress and Oltorf to fundraise for HOME, which provides grants to aging Austin musicians to help them pay rent, utilities, and other housing expenses. Kelley Mickwee performs next on June 21. The partnership comes after the grocery chain – recognized by Forbes as America’s best brand for social impact earlier this year – swooped in to save OG concert series Blues on the Green in 2024; that event returns this year August 5-6.
