CRANDON, Wisc. (WJFW)—Deciding on a career can be intimidating, especially when you’re in high school but a local school district is showing students, it doesn’t have to be scary.
“Very excited but scared at the same time.” Said 11th grade Crandon student, Nevaeah Alloway.
Students from all across Forest County gathered at Crandon High School for its eighth annual career fair.
Sixth through twelfth graders buzzed with excitement as they spoke with potential employers.

High School Counselor, Jessica Keao says students weren’t limited in the types of careers they could explore
“We try to get professionals from each of the cluster areas so they can see there’s a variety of different paths after high school.” Keao said.
75 employers ranging from finance, to public safety, to the trades were at the career fair.
Many employers had demonstrations and displays to show students what it takes to work in certain fields.
Some students have already chosen career paths based on their own unique skills…
“Cosmotology, because growing up my auntie was always braiding hair and she taught me,” said Alloway. “And I’m really good at braiding now so that’s what I want to do.”
While others want to learn new skills.
“I want to be a nurse,” said 10th grade Elcho student, Mallorie Malitz. “I actually want to be a labor and delivery nurse because I really like kids. So, if I can bring more into this world or help by delivering them, I mean that’s what I want to do.”
Whether they’ve found their dream job or are still exploring, Keao says it’s important to show students a variety of careers both close to and far from home.
“It’s important so that students have an idea of what careers are out there,” Keao said. “And what careers are out there beyond what we see in Crandon or our county.”
