ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — Community members gathered at a workshop at the University of North Carolina Asheville (UNCA) campus to discuss solutions for the UNCA Millennial Campus sites.
The workshop follows the university’s decision to pause development plans that would bring market-rate housing, a childcare center, retail space, and a 5,000-seat stadium.
UNC ASHEVILLE PAUSES DEVELOPMENT AMID COMMUNITY CONCERNS, ASKS FOR PUBLIC INPUT
The stadium is planned to host Asheville City Soccer Club and UNCA’s Division I soccer program.
The project has received backlash from community members, and the news of the pause in the project was welcomed by those who oppose the development.
“We’re thankful that UNCA, the chancellor, particularly, has listened to the community and has agreed to developing a commission slash steering committee that will continue to have input from the public,” said organizer of the event, Susan Loftis. “I feel very, very encouraged that we are at a point where the community will be involved and that the input will be welcomed.”
