Students, staff and faculty members from Penn State’s College of Education share recent research and career achievements.
· Mildred Boveda, associate professor of special education, has been selected as the recipient of the 2025 TED Social Justice Award. She will be recognized at the Awards Ceremony during the TED Conference in Kansas City on Nov. 12.
· Allison Fleming, associate professor of rehabilitation and human services, is lead author of an article, “Forced Retirement: An Avoidable Consequence of Disability Onset in Midlife?” recently published in Rehabilitation Counseling Bulletin.
· Erica Frankenberg, professor of education and demography, is co-author of a new paper, “Dual language immersion programs and their neighborhoods: Issues of program access and representation within Los Angeles Unified School District” in Social Science Research.
· At the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (ACES) conference in Philadelphia (Oct. 8-12), the Penn State Counselor Education program won three of the six awards for the North Atlantic Region of ACES and one award from the Southern Association for Counselor Education and Supervision: Kristen Nadermann, associate teaching professor of education- Janine Bernard Outstanding Supervisor Award; Sarah Shrewsbury-Braxton, assistant professor of counselor education – New Professional Award; Saiber Shaikh – Outstanding Graduate Student – Doctoral Level Award; and Elizabeth Prosek, professor of counselor education – Teaching and Supervision in Counseling Reviewer of the Year Award. Additionally, two Penn State students, including Shaik and Fan Fan, received the Student Research Grant. Moreover, their honor society Rho Alpha Mu’s newsletter was recognized.
· Lydia Ocasio-Stoutenburg, assistant professor of special education, is co-author of a new article, EMBRAACE: A Collaborative Framework Empowering Families of Color Navigating Augmentative and Alternative Communication Supports and Services.
