The Murray-Calloway County Chamber of Commerce hosted its third annual SPARK event Wednesday at Murray State University’s CFSB Center. According to the chamber’s website, SPARK was developed by the Murray Works Foundation for eighth grade students in the Murray and Calloway County school districts to provide a “career exploration experience.” Around 500 students attended, and about 60 businesses and organizations were on site to provide hands-on learning experiences intended to demonstrate local career options and “spark” the students’ interests. The chamber said 250 business professionals, volunteers and Murray State students helped put on the event. The table was run by culinary students at the Murray-Calloway County Area Technology Center (ATC), and cylindrical polystyrene pieces were used to stand in for the cakes.
