Reading about technical careers may pique a student’s interest, but getting hands on experiences and meeting successful employers offering jobs in those fields is more likely to engage that student and give them a more meaningful experience.
That’s why for the third-straight year, the Lincoln County School District Career Technical Education program is hosting a Career Exploration Fair.
The fair, to be held Nov. 20 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Lincoln Civic Center, brings inquisitive students and career technical education-based employers together to meet and advise students about potential career pathways leading toward a successful future.
“The only way for students to make an informed decision on what career they want to choose is to expose them to as many businesses and industries as we can,” said Susan Price, Student Services coordinator for Lincoln County Schools. “We strive for this to not be a typical job fair, but one where students can actively explore sample aspects of many careers. We invite local schools because our end goal is to strengthen the workforce across our county and communities.”
The event features representatives from various careers, trades, businesses, industries, technical and community colleges and specialty schools. More than 60 business and industry partners are scheduled to attend.
Attending this event gives students in 10th through 12th grades information about desired skills and abilities that employers are seeking for their respective businesses and industries, Price said.
More than 600 students are expected to attend.
