A cardiovascular surgeon has revealed what four things you should avoid like the plague if you want to stay far away from his operating table.
Dr Jeremy London, who has over 25 years of clinical experience, shared an informative video online explaining which habits tend to wreak havoc on the health of your heart.
Our tickers are responsible for pumping blood around our bodies, while delivering oxygen and nutrients to the right places along the way.
Without it, we’d be snookered.
So, we all ought to look after our cardiovascular health like our lives depend on it…because they do.
Having treated thousands of patients from all walks of life during his more than two decade tenure, Dr London has a good idea of how to keep our hearts in good shape.
Therefore, he also has a decent knowledge of what elements of your lifestyle can fast track you to an early grave.

Although he makes it clear to his 1.3million Instagram followers that he is ‘not [issuing] medical advice’, the health expert doesn’t mind simply sharing his wisdom with the rest of us.
Back in May, Dr London shared a short video to his social media page explaining what four things he would avoid in life to protect his cardiovascular health.
In the quick-fire clip, he explained that his first big no-no is leading a ‘sedentary lifestyle’, which essentially means sitting and lying down excessively, while rarely taking part in physical activity.
Offering some guidance to viewers, the doctor added: “Aerobic and strength training are the cornerstone to improve your health span and lifespan.”
Next up was smoking – as he warned that the ‘dangerous’ habit will wreak havoc on your heart, while increasing your risk of coronary artery disease, heart attacks, heart failure, and strokes.
“The burden of evidence is overwhelming,” Dr London said. “It’s dangerous.”
Thirdly, he suggested that people should prioritise consuming a healthy, balanced diet, which ‘avoids chronically high glucose levels.’
“You want to avoid metabolic syndrome,” Dr London said, which is the name for a group of health problems that put you at risk of type 2 diabetes or conditions that affect your heart or blood vessels, according to the NHS.
Rounding off his video, the medic urged people to avoid ‘chronic fatigue.’
“Pay attention to your sleep hygiene,” he said. “This is something that I really struggle with. If we could bottle the benefits of sleep, the lion would be out the door at the pharmacy.”
If you’re continuously missing out on your beauty sleep, you’re putting yourself at risk of high blood pressure, heart disease, heart attacks, strokes, type 2 diabetes and obesity.
