January is School Board Recognition Month
January is School Board Recognition Month, and Buckeye Career Center is recognizing its Board of Education members for their dedication to the district, its students and its partner school districts.
“School board members play a vital role in shaping the future of education in our community,” Superintendent Bob Alsept said. “There has never been a more important time to have strong Board of Education members. Withstanding challenges related to funding, curriculum and instruction from all directions requires members to be informed and passionate about their roles and responsibilities.”
Alsept said board members serve as a link between the community and the classroom and establish policies that provide the framework for public education. The Buckeye Career Center Board of Education oversees career-technical education for students from partner districts across the region.
“We are blessed to have a wonderful and committed Board of Education at Buckeye Career Center. Their expertise is vital to expanding opportunities for all of our students, regardless of age,” Alsept said.
Buckeye Career Center board members are Cyndy Host, president (Claymont); Steve Brode, vice president (Newcomerstown); and members Jim Gertz (East Holmes), Robert Higgenbotham (Conotton Valley), Kevin Harvey (Strasburg), Randy Longacher (Dover), Dan Ries (Carrollton), Eric Kinsey (Indian Valley), Scott Tritt (Tuscarawas Valley), Bob Hannon (Garaway) and Kelly Ricklic (New Philadelphia).
Board members were recognized at the Buckeye Career Center Board of Education meeting Jan. 20. Each received a wooden plaque designed and laser-etched by Project Lead the Way/Engineering students under the direction of Tim Vandeborne.
