Counter Culture is the outstanding new UK-fashion bible with over 600 pages and 1000 historical reference images. Authors Jay Montessori and Brendan Wyatt collaborated to share their perspectives on life growing up in the Liverpool area between 1977 and 2002. Weighing in at 4.5kgs, ‘coffee table’ is maybe more appropriate than calling this monster a mere book.
Full of unique UK slang, in-jokes and terrace references, Counter Culture takes readers on a meandering journey from to to Fiorucci, putting the reader into the mindset of English football fans, ravers and breakdancers. Crazy attention to detail has gone into sourcing the imagery and anecdotes, which gives the book a personable ‘DIY’ feel that is mightily impressive in scale and ambition. The majority of garments come from the authors’ personal collections, and the sense of love and fixation is apparent on every page.
