A two-year career development award aimed at increasing diversity among clinical trial investigators and improving trial access for underrepresented patient populations. This program, named after Dr. Robert Winn, provides funding, training, and mentorship to early to mid-career physicians (particularly those from underrepresented minority backgrounds) to help them design and lead clinical trials in their communities. The goal is to build a pipeline of diverse clinical researchers and address disparities in clinical trial participation.
Eligibility Criteria:

Board-certified or board-eligible physicians (MD or DO) in any oncology subspecialty, typically at the assistant professor level or equivalent.

Applicants should identify as underrepresented in medicine (URM) and/or demonstrate a commitment to increasing minority patient enrollment in trials.

Must have a clinical trial concept or community-oriented research project ready for development (can be early-phase or behavioral intervention trials).

Funding Details:

$240,000 over 2 years (up to $120K/year) to support the awardee’s research time and trial execution costs.

Includes specialized training in clinical trial design (workshops, courses through ASCO or AACR), and one-on-one mentorship by senior clinical trialists.
