BELTON — Belton Independent School District named Will Yuengel as its new principal of the District Alternative Education Program — a position he is already familiar with.
“Yuengel has served as the DAEP interim principal since March 2025 and was previously the DAEP assistant principal beginning in August 2022,” Candice Griffin, a Belton ISD spokeswoman, said in a news release. “He succeeds Sandy Garrett, who served in the role for six years before accepting another position within the district.”
Yuengel holds a master’s degree in educational administration from Concordia University and a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Baylor University.
“Will Yuengel’s commitment to creating a safe, supportive learning environment and his strong focus on student success make him the ideal choice to lead DAEP into its next chapter,” Ben Smith, Belton ISD executive director of campus leadership for secondary campuses, said. “His leadership experience and dedication to helping students grow academically, socially and emotionally will continue to strengthen the important work happening on campus.”

Although Yuengel’s nearly 15-year career in education includes roles as an instructional specialist, a lead math teacher and a math instructor, he also served his communities as a new teacher mentor, a UIL academic coach and the president of a campus advisory committee.
He is excited to continue his career at DAEP.
“Belton ISD’s DAEP provides students with opportunities for academic success, character development and personal growth through an alternative setting that emphasizes respect, responsibility and readiness for future success,” Griffin said.
Yuengel’s new role will become effective on July 7.
