BARRINGTON, R.I. (WJAR) — The Barrington School Committee held a special meeting on Tuesday to discuss disturbing allegations against a former bus monitor made by two students.
Last week, the school district announced to parents that it received reports from two students alleging inappropriate touching.
The bus monitor worked for Ocean State Transit and has since been fired.
On Tuesday, the school committee passed a motion to permanently remove both the bus monitor and the driver involved in the two incidents from school services.
The school committee said it will also bring in a third party counseling group, along with an independent investigator.
The superintendent told NBC 10 the first incident happened on Thursday June 12, and the second reported incident preceded that.
NBC 10 has repeatedly called police over the past week to see if an arrest has been made. As of Tuesday night, no arrests have been made.
After Tuesday night’s meeting NBC 10 asked Thomas Peck, the Barrington School Committee Chair, why no arrests have been made and whether that concerns him. Peck declined to comment on camera, but did speak during the meeting.
“While we can’t share a lot of the details, I will speak for the full committee in saying the committee is absolutely outraged at this,” said Peck. “We recognize the challenge that this faces affected students and their families we want to make sure that they have all of the mental health and support services.”
The school committee will hold a special meeting on June 30 to discuss potentially replacing Ocean State Transit.
Police and DCYF are involved in the investigation.
