Dr. Fred Abernathy, a 2000 graduate of Athens State University, has successfully completed the CASE Special Education Leadership Institute (SELI), a national professional learning program developed by the Council of Administrators of Special Education (CASE).
The CASE Special Education Leadership Institute was established to strengthen the field of special education leadership across the nation and to address the growing need for highly trained educational leaders prepared to supervise and advance special education programs.
Rooted in the CASE mission to advance the field of special education through professional learning, policy and advocacy, the Institute provides a year-long experience focused on visionary, inclusive, and engaging leadership practices. Participants complete extensive coursework, collaborative learning experiences, and a culminating project demonstrating leadership impact within their district or organization.
“CASE is committed to practicing and promoting equity in all we do to honor belonging for all students,” said Dr. Zabrina Cannady, CASE Director of Professional Learning. “Graduates of the Institute embody this commitment through their dedication to improving outcomes for students with disabilities.”
Through this intensive professional learning experience, Dr. Fred Abernathy joined a select group of educational leaders from across the United States who are advancing equitable systems of support for students with disabilities.
“I am honored to have participated in this national leadership program,” said Abernathy. “The experience strengthened my ability to lead effectively, collaborate meaningfully, and ensure that every student has access to high-quality, inclusive learning opportunities.”
The Council of Administrators of Special Education (CASE) is an international professional organization dedicated to the core values of visionary leadership, inclusionary practices, engagement, and integrity.
