MADISON (WKOW) — As the new year begins, many people are resolving to cut back on alcohol. Gallup data shows the percentage of American adults who drink is at its lowest in at least 90 years.
In a state where drinking is deeply ingrained in the culture, Blind Shot Social Club is investing in the state’s largest non-alcoholic bar program.
“It requires a lot of research, reading, finding certain cocktail templates that work,” said Michelle Duvall.
Michelle Duvall and her husband, Brent, co-own Blind Shot Social Club and are both non-drinkers. They wanted to create a space for others who don’t drink to feel included.
“I’d like something that’s interesting and fits what I’m looking for. And what I’m looking for is something without alcohol. But could it, please have some effort behind it instead of just tossing me a lemonade?” said Duvall.
Blind Shot still serves alcoholic drinks, but its investment in non-alcoholic options comes as more people are drinking less, Dry January has gained popularity and the non-alcoholic drink business is rapidly growing.
Duvall said they are always looking to expand their collection of non-alcoholic liquors as new brands emerge.
While their non-drinking customer base is consistent year-round, Duvall said more people become sober-curious in January.
“I also see more people like checking out the menu and asking more questions, and maybe people who haven’t ordered a NA (non-alcoholic) drink before trying one. But you start to see, like, little light bulbs going off, oh, like, this might be good,” said Duvall.
Next, Blind Shot plans to expand its THC drink menu.
“It’s not nothing, but it’s not alcohol,” said Duval.
