ALLIANCE − Alliance City Schools Board of Education and its teachers union have reached an agreement for a new three-year contract.
The Board of Education approved the pact Nov. 4. Alliance Education Association members also voted Nov. 4 to move forward with the agreement. The union represents about 227 teachers, school counselors, deans of students, school psychologists and speech language pathologists.
The contact is retroactive to July 1 and runs through June 30, 2028.
“We are proud to have so many dedicated and talented teachers and certified staff,” Superintendent Rob Gress said. “Our new contract reflects our appreciation for the impact they have on our students every day.”
During each respective year of the contract, the certificated staff will receive a 3% increase in salary with no additional increase in insurance costs.
“Our Board of Education is pleased to approve a new contract that recognizes the outstanding work of our Alliance educators,” board president Beth Canfield-Simbro said. “This contract balances the uncertainty of public school funding in Ohio with the board’s desire to support our teachers in the critical work they do in our community. The best education for every Aviator is provided by well-supported and highly qualified teachers, and this contract will help Alliance recruit and retain our excellent teaching staff.”
The two sides began negotiating the contract in February. The existing contract expired June 30.
Alliance Education Association said it is happy with the deal.
“Our new contract will allow us to continue focusing on the association’s first priority − the students we serve,” the union said in a news release.
Alliance Education Association is affiliated with Ohio Education Association and National Education Association, with about 250 professional staff covered by the collective bargaining agreement.
