PADUCAH — Friday, McCracken County High School went into an internal lockdown for around two hours.
According to McCracken County Public Schools, at approximately 2 p.m., the MCHS front office staff received a phone call reporting a potential threat.
The administration placed the school under an internal lockdown until the building and campus could be deemed safe for dismissal. The McCracken County Sheriff’s Office as well as McCracken County School District Police responded, and the building was deemed safe at approximately 2:35 p.m.
Not long after, MCHS administration and SROs began escorting students in small groups to buses for dismissal before all other students were dismissed.
“Our number one priority is always the safety and well being of students and staff,” MCPS wrote. “We appreciate your grace and patience as we cautiously navigated the situation and safe dismissal of our students and staff.”
According to MCSO, detectives are currently investigating the origins of the phone call.
