As the Alamo Colleges District celebrates the completion of five years of transformative impact through AlamoPROMISE, the scholarship initiative continues to serve as a national model for expanding access and driving economic growth.

On Monday, the Alamo Colleges District will host the College Promise 10th Anniversary and Careers Institute at Palo Alto College, welcoming national leaders and innovators committed to redefining pathways to higher education and workforce opportunity.

Attendees will engage in sessions on career pathways, sustainable financing, employer partnerships, and equitable access to higher education, all designed to prepare students for success in a rapidably changing economy.

During the convening, AlamoPROMISE will be one of 15 institutions honored with the National Impact Award from College Promise, celebrating Promise programs nationwide that exemplify community commitment to student success.

“AlamoPROMISE is a powerful example of how education transforms not just individual lives, but our community’s growth,” said Dr. Mike Flores, Alamo Colleges District Chancellor. “By removing cost as a barrier and connecting students to the support they need, we are advancing our moonshot to end poverty through education and training. We’re honored to host College Promise and higher education leaders from across the nation and to be recognized for our program’s success—reflecting how we invest in students, strengthen families, and build a more prosperous future for San Antonio.”

Also during the convening, Alamo Colleges District leadership will take part in a panel discussion about AlamoPROMISE and its impact on educational access and economic growth. The conversation will highlight findings from a recent economic analysis showing that AlamoPROMISE has generated more than $1.1 billion in economic activity across Bexar County, supporting over 7,800 jobs from 2019 to 2024.

AlamoPROMISE, Alamo Colleges District’s largest scholarship initiative, allows Bexar County high school seniors to attend an Alamo College tuition-free—removing cost as a barrier to opportunity.

Over the past four years, the Alamo Colleges District has invested $16.3 million in AlamoPROMISE scholarships, with an additional $77 million received from financial aid funding to support AlamoPROMISE Scholars.

More about AlamoPROMISE

Launched in 2019 through a collaborative effort with local schools, community leaders, government, and philanthropic partners, AlamoPROMISE was created to eliminate financial barriers and increase college access for students in Bexar County.

As a cornerstone of the Alamo Colleges District’s moonshot to end poverty through education and training, AlamoPROMISE provides accessible, student-centered pathways to success.

Since its launch, over 30,000 AlamoPROMISE Scholars have enrolled, helping reduce poverty in Bexar County. In Fall 2025, the program reached a record of over 13,600 overall AlamoPROMISE Scholars which included the largest incoming class of nearly 7,800 freshman, and also contributed to the district’s all-time high enrollment of nearly 88,000 learners.
