Alabama high school basketball stars: Mars Hill star dominates in close win

A two-time Alabama Sports Writers Association Player of the Year is making her presence known again on the basketball courts of North Alabama.

Belle Hill, who won the awards in both Class 2A and Class 3A as a standout for Mars Hill Bible, highlights this week’s AL.com list of Alabama high school basketball stars for her performance in a the seccond-ranked Class 3A Panthers’ win over 6A Mortimer Jordan on Wednesday.

The 6-foot-1 Hill scored 46 points – almost 80 percent of the Panthers’ total – in a 58-53 win on Wednesday. She also hauled in 15 rebounds. In a 60-50 win over Arab on Tuesday, Hill had 36 points and 12 boards.

Hill, who was a Super All-State pick last season, participated in the 2025 USA Women’s U 16 National Team trials in Colorado Springs and took part in the 2025 Women’s Junior National Team April minicamp in Tampa.

Here are the other stars from play this week:

Tyson Bobik, Huntsville: Bobik scored a career-high 25 points – hitting 7-of-14 of his 3-point attempts – in a 70-65 overtime loss to Berkmar, Ga., on Tuesday.

Jacob Cole, UMS-Wright: Cole notched a double-double with 23 points and 12 rebounds in a 74-50 win over Shelby County in the Mako Classic at Orange Beach High School on Tuesday.

Abby Johnson, Daphne: The senior notched a double-double in a 59-55 win over East Rankin, Miss., on Tuesday, scoring 15 points with 10 assists. She also had 6 steals and 4 rebounds for the Trojans.

Lani Smallwood, Albertville: Smallwood poured in a school-record 42 points in an 80-58 win over Mountain Brook at home on Tuesday. The 5-8 senior also had 10 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals.

Tyde Traffanstedt, Sand Rock: The 5-11 junior guard scored 10 of his 26 points in the fourth quarter of a 69-57 win over Hokes Bluff on Tuesday.

LJ Williams, Saraland: The 6-8 sophomore recorded his eighth-straight double-double with 23 points and 13 rebounds in the 8-0 Spartans’ 80-38 win over B.C. Rain on Tuesday.

Here are highlights from games played from across the state this week:

GIRLS

MOBILE/COASTAL ALABAMA

Navarre (Fla.) 42, Fairhope 40: Navarre, Fla., handed the sixth-ranked Class 7A Pirates their first loss of the season with the nail-biter at Fairhope on Tuesday. Campbell Anderson led Fairhope (8-1) with 12 points. Nylah Loukides had 9 points and 6 rebounds.

Holly Pond 37, Gulf Shores 22: Holly Pond knocked off Gulf Shores in the Dolphins’ final game in the Battle at the Beach on Tuesday, led by Ava Thomas’ 16 points. Sadie Nail added 13 in the win for sixth-ranked Class 3A Holly Pond. Gulf Shores – Kate Cimino scored 10 points for the Dolphins (6-3).

Daphne 59, East Rankin (Miss.) 55: The Trojans edged East Rankin Academy of Pelahatchie, Miss., in the Hancock Thanksgiving Classic in Kiln, Miss., on Tuesday. Abby Johnson finished with a double-double, scoring 15 points with 10 assists. She also had 6 steals and 4 rebounds. Fredayshia Goodwin also scored 15 in the win. Kamorya Johnson added 11 points with 4 rebounds for 7A No. 4 Daphne.

Alma Bryant 53, B.C. Rain 30: The Hurricanes (5-1) whipped B.C. Rain at home on Tuesday. Twins Mari-Margret Grayson and Madi-Marie Grayson led the way with 16 and 14 points, respectively. The twins played three quarters in Alma Bryant’s win.

HUNTSVILLE/TENNESSEE VALLEY

Huntsville 52, Parker 40: Three Crimson Panthers scored in double figures in the win on Tuesday in the Jag Classic at Spain Park High School. Senior Hannah Gardiner scored 17 to lead the way, eighth grader Elsa Solomon and freshman Eleanor Shea had 14 points apiece. Solomon also had 9 rebounds. Huntsville (7-3) out-rebounded the Thundering Herd 40-16 with senior Sarah Raleigh grabbing 19 boards.

Hokes Bluff 47, Sand Rock 18: The Eagles rolled over Class 2A No. 5 Sand Rock on the road on Tuesday. Maddie Clanton grabbed 13 rebounds in the loss and Macey Pruitt led Sand Rock with 9 points.

Albertville 80, Mountain Brook 58: Lani Smallwood poured in a school-record 42 points in the rout of Class 6A No. 3 Mountain Brook at home on Tuesday. The 5-8 senior also had 10 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals. Whitley Brooker also had a double-double for the second-ranked Class 7A Aggies with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Gracyn Robeson scored 17 for Albertville.

Danville 56, Fyffe 48: The Hawks knocked off Fyffe as Addison Prater scored 19 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. Adily Alberti scored 13 points and had 5 rebounds.

STATEWIDE

Mars Hill Bible 58, Mortimer Jordan 53: The Class 3A second-ranked Panthers knocked off Mortimer Jordan on the road on Wednesday as Belle Hill scored almost 80 percent of her team’s points. The sophomore poured in 46 points in the win and had 15 rebounds. Mars Hill is ranked second in Class 3A.

Bullock County 43, Wilcox Central 37: Te’Nisha Perry recorded a double-double, scoring 18 points and hauling down 14 rebounds, to lead the Hornets past Wilcox Central in the HHS Girls Tournament at Highland Home High School on Tuesday. Shadereka Cobb grabbed 15 rebounds for Bullock County.

Selma 44, Bullock County 34: The Saints earned the home win over Bullock County on Monday despite Hornets’ eighth grader Makayla Tarver’s 15 points, 4 assists and 4 steals.

Stanhope Elmore 64, Montgomery Academy 20: The Mustangs took third place in the Coach Larry Chapman Foundation Tip Off Classic at Montgomery Academy on Wednesday. Montgomery Academy – Freshman Garland Thomas led the Eagles (1-2) with 6 points.

Pike Road 48, Montgomery Academy 41: The Patriots rallied in the second half to earn the win over Montgomery Academy on Tuesday in the Coach Larry Chapman Foundation Tip Off Classic at Montgomery Academy. MA led 19-17 at the half. Montgomery Academy – Junior Kaci Armistead scored 19 points and Bennett Britt grabbed 10 rebounds and had 5 steals.

Saint James 54, Gadsden City 32: The top-ranked Class 3A Trojans whipped 6A Gadsden City on Tuesday in the Lady Aggies Thanksgiving Classic in Albertville. Kaitlin Mitchell scored 18 points to lead Saint James (7-0). Natalie Barton scored 14 and Morgan Lilly added 10. The Trojans beat 5A Moody 73-19 on Monday.

Brewbaker Tech 51, Prattville Christian 34: The Rams whipped Prattville Christian on the final day of the Coach Larry Chapman Foundation Tip Off Classic on Wednesday at Montgomery Academy. Prattville Christian – Laney Little registered a double-double in the loss, scoring 10 points and claiming 14 rebounds. Reagan Houston scored 16 and had 4 rebounds. Leah Cate Wilson had 10 rebounds and Baylee Rogers had 9 assists with 4 boards.

BOYS

MOBILE/COASTAL ALABAMA

Saraland 80, B.C. Rain 38: The Spartans won their Saraland Thanksgiving Invitational with the runaway over B.C. Rain in the championship game on Tuesday. LJ Williams, a 6-8 sophomore, picked up his eighth straight double-double with 23 points and 13 rebounds for Saraland (8-0). Freshman Timarius Jennings and senior Cody Hart scored 14 and 13, respectively. B.C. Rain – Aiden Withers led the Red Raiders with 20 points.

Blount 46, Gulf Shores 44: The Leopards edged the host Dolphins at the Battle of the Beach on Tuesday to run their record to 7-0. Jaiden Beck scored 22 points and had 5 assists with 3 steals in the win. Chris Smith scored 11 and grabbed 8 rebounds with 2 blocked shots.

UMS-Wright 74, Shelby County 50: The Class 5A No. 8 Bulldogs wrapped up the Mako Classic at Orange Beach High School with the Tuesday win over Shelby County and improved to 5-2 on the season. UMS-Wright jumped to a 42-22 halftime lead on the way to the win. Jacob Cole registered a double-double with 23 points and 12 rebounds. He also had 3 assists for UMS-Wright. Jake Pilger scored 16 in the win

McGill-Toolen 60, West Point (Tenn.) 53: The Yellow Jackets had three players score in double figures in the Battle at the Beach at Gulf Shores High School on Tuesday, led by Stephen Heim’s 13 points. Joseph Weems had 12 points and Ty York scored 10 and had 9 rebounds. McGill-Toolen outscored the Warriors 33-9 in the decisive third quarter, turning a 33-27 halftime deficit into a 50-41 advantage.

HUNTSVILLE/TENNESSEE VALLEY

Berkmar (Ga.) 70, Huntsville 65 (OT): The visitors from Lilburn, Ga., handed Huntsville its first loss of the season in overtime in the Holiday Hoopsgiving event at Huntsville High School, ending the Crimson Panthers’ 19-game home win streak. Class 7A No. 2 Huntsville (6-1) didn’t lead until the fourth quarter and went into overtime tied at 60 after Tyson Bobik, who scored a career-high 25 points by making 7-of-14 shots from beyond the 3-point arc, missed a pair of free throws on an intentional foul with 0.3 seconds left in regulation. Evan Toms had 19 points with 8 rebounds and Hudson Gossett made five 3-pointers to finish with 15 points. Berkmar – Chase Mohn poured in 28 points, hitting 13-of-17 shots from the floor to lead the Patriots (3-1). Jayvon Rampersant had a double-double, scoring 20 points with 11 rebounds.

Meadowcreek (Ga.) 67, Mae Jemison 65: Enzo Wee, a 6-8 post player, led Meadowcreek of Norcross, Ga., with 19 points in the narrow win over Mae Jemison in the Holiday Hoopsgiving event at Huntsville High School on Tuesday. Jayden Beckham scored 14 – 11 in the fourth quarter and Sean Alicea had 12. Mae Jemison – Cortez Hudson led the 6A No. 4 Jaguars with 19 points. Robert Strong scored 15 and Malachi McNair added 12.

Hartselle 65, Cold Springs 42: The Tigers raced to a 33-13 first-half lead on the way to the win in the Hanceville Thanksgiving Tournament on Tuesday. Reed Springer led Hartselle with 13 points with three 3-pointers. Gray Bennich scored 12 and Aiden Pointer added 10 in the win. Cold Springs – Cash Dickerson led the Eagles with 15 points with three 3-pointers. Ayden Black added 12.

Sand Rock 69, Hokes Bluff 57: Tyde Traffanstedt led the Wildcats, pouring in 26 points – with 10 in the fourth quarter – in the home win over Hokes Bluff on Tuesday. Will Cleere and Jonas Browder registered double-doubles for Sand Rock with Cleere scoring 18 with 13 rebounds and Browder scoring 11 with 11 boards. Hokes Bluff – Noah Johnson scored 16 of his 22 points in the second half for the Eagles. Caylor Jones scored 11 and Ronan McFadden had 10.

Westminster Christian 57, Phil Campbell 43: The Wildcats wrapped up the Colts Classic at Clements High School with the win over Phil Campbell to go 3-0 in the event. Brady Wilson led Westminster Christian with 14 points and 6 rebounds. Mike Scott had 12 points – hitting 4-of-8 on 3-pointers. Phil Campbell – Austin Elliot led the Bobcats with 19 points.

BIRMINGHAM/CENTRAL ALABAMA

Midfield 58, Woodlawn 56: The fourth-ranked Class 3A Patriots edged Woodlawn in the Heritage Thanksgiving Classic quarterfinals on Tuesday at Pinson Valley High School. Aaron Adams-Martin led Midfield with 21 points with 6 rebounds. Jaylen King scored 17 with 7 rebounds and 5 steals.

Corner 59, Hartselle 53: The Yellow Jackets used a big third quarter to overcome a 33-28 first-half deficit on the way to the win over Hartselle in the Hanceville Thanksgiving Tournament on Wednesday. Corner outscored the Tigers 19-8 in the third period and the teams battled to a 12-all stalemate in the fourth. Talan Laird scored 22, with four 3-point baskets, to lead the Jackets. Charlie Hill added 17 with three 3-pointers. Hartselle – Reed Springer led the Tigers with 14 points. Aiden Pointer added 12.

Oak Mountain 90, Thompson 78: The Eagles whipped the host team on Tuesday to win the Thompson Thanksgiving Invitational with Patton Knight and Kasen Lemons scoring 25 points apiece. Christian Jones scored 11 and Clay Mills added 10 in the win.

St. Paul’s 68, Chelsea 59: St. Paul’s beat Chelsea on the final day of the Thompson Thanksgiving Invitational. Chelsea – Jordan Garcia led the Hornets with 16 points and Evan Moller added 11.

Vestavia Hills 63, Huffman 47: The Rebels won the championship in their 47th annual Sneaky Pete’s classic on Wednesday as tournament MVP Emory Bear notched a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds. Johnny Towry scored 17 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. Luke Stubbs scored 12 and Brett Brown added 10.

STATEWIDE

Dothan 51, Grissom 38: The Wolves topped Grissom on Tuesday at the Holiday Hoopsgiving event at Huntsville High School. Daylan Coleman led Dothan with 18 points and Dejiah Coleman added 13. Grissom – Sydney Brown led the Tigers with 17 points, hitting four 3-pointers in the loss.

Lee-Scott Academy 44, Montgomery Academy 41: The Warriors took third place in the Coach Larry Chapman Foundation Tip Off Classic on Wednesday, slipping past the host Montgomery Academy. Lee-Scott rallied from an 18-2 first-quarter deficit to cut MA’s halftime lead to 26-20. The Class 3A No. 2 Eagles carried a 2-point lead into the final quarter before being outscored 16-11 for the final margin. Montgomery Academy – Braden Gordon, in his first action of the season, led the Eagles with 14 points. He also had 6 rebounds. Robert McGaughey had 7 rebounds.

Brewbaker Tech 58, Montgomery Academy 56: The Rams rallied late, outscoring Montgomery Academy 17-11 in the fourth quarter to escape with the win in the Coach Larry Champman Foundation Tip Off Classic at MA on Tuesday. The Eagles led 16-7 after one quarter, 26-23 at the half and 45-41 headed into the final period. Montgomery Academy – Mason Ellis scored 15 points, claimed 8 rebounds and had 4 assists and 3 steals in the loss. Jarrett Friendly, in his first game of the season, finished with a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Will Renfroe had 9 points and 8 rebounds.

Cross Creek (Ga.) 63, Oxford 57: The Razorbacks from Augusta, Ga., outscored Oxford 21-12 in the fourth quarter to earn the win in the Holiday Hoopsgiving event at Huntsville High School on Tuesday. Frashad Tisby scored 21 points – 11 in the final period – to lead Cross Creek. Dontrell Jackson scored 14 and Derrick Shine had 12. Oxford – Jaylen Alexander led the Class 6A No. 3 Yellow Jackets with 15 points. Caleb Wilson added 14 and Marcus Perry had 12.

Saint James 28, Prattville Christian 22: The Trojans edged Prattville Christian on the final day of the Coach Larry Chapman Foundation Tip Off Classic on Wednesday. Prattville Christian – CJ Robinson scored 8 points and had 8 rebounds for the Panthers. Justin Chapman grabbed 10 rebounds.
