UTICA, N.Y. — The United African Association of Utica hosted its second annual African Festival Saturday. It took place at Utica City Hall’s Hanna Park.
The event, which was free and open to the public, featured live music, dance performances, a fashion showcase, authentic African cuisine, art displays and kids’ activities.
Ebrima Jallow, President of the United African Association of Utica, says it’s about more than just sharing the diversity, and richness of African culture with the community.
It’s about knowledge.
“Knowledge of our culture and our way of living. Because the African culture is a rich culture. The more people know about our culture, the more they’ll know why we do things a certain way.”
Organizers say they hope the festival continues to grow, so more Uticans can learn about African culture.
