Actor Hina Khan, a stage 3 breast cancer patient, has shared an inspiring outlook on maintaining positivity and a sense of self during her health journey. Choosing to style her wig with a layered cut, she’s finding ways to express herself while navigating treatment. As she mentioned in the video, “The show must go on and you got to stay fashionable.” Her words reflect a strong resolve to embrace life fully, despite the challenges, and to approach each day with resilience and creativity.
“Wig hai to kya hua. We ain’t wasting a Good Hair Day,” she captioned the post, expressing her gratitude for her hairdresser and adding that when her real hair grows back, she plans to style it in layers, too.
For Khan, experimenting with her appearance offers a way to stay connected to her identity, reinforcing the message that one can find joy in self-expression even amid health struggles. Her outlook speaks to the emotional impact of cancer treatment and the importance of staying mentally strong.

This act of self-preservation boosts self-confidence, lifts mood, and provides a stable sense of self during uncertain times. Essentially, personal style can act as a shield, helping individuals hold onto their individuality and find strength in vulnerability.”
Sonal Khangarot, licensed rehabilitation counsellor and psychotherapist, The Answer Room, says, “How we feel on the inside is often reflected on the outside, when one is fighting a serious health condition enhancing one’s styles or self expression can act as cheerleaders in the journey of illness. The illness can reduce one’s will to fight back and to show up. This is exactly when resilience comes into play, and the small actions one takes to boost their sense of self help them become more courageous as they continue on their journey through health challenges.”

Dr Sharma states that self-care is essential for sustaining a positive outlook, especially for those coping with illness. Simple acts, such as taking time to rest, eating nourishing foods, practicing mindfulness, or engaging in gentle exercise, promote physical comfort and mental clarity. These routines offer a break from the stress of medical treatment, grounding patients in the present moment and reducing anxiety.
“It doesn’t have to be grand or extravagant; it can be small things like treating oneself to a favourite meal or sticking to a simple pampering skincare routine, which helps enhance self-worth and reminds one that they are still worthy of love, care, and kindness,” adds Khangarot.
