MILLINOCKET – Accessing child care is one of the most pressing needs for Maine’s working families, but that’s going to get a little easier for parents in the Millinocket area.
A ribbon cutting ceremony was held today to celebrate the grand opening of the expanded Early Childhood Education Center at the Katahdin Higher Education Center.
A 4 million dollar federal grant allowed Eastern Maine Community College to double its child care capacity at the facility to around 50 children.
The expansion included a kitchen, two state-of-the art classrooms and two playgrounds.
Eastern Maine Community College officials say the expansion is expected to enhance economic stability in the region by providing child care for area parents and increasing the workforce.
