NEW YORK (WABC) — There will be heightened security at NYU after emailed threats were received by the school.
The NYPD and NYU Campus Safety say they will be on hand for extra security across the campus.
The Silver Center and Palladium Residence Hall have been given the all clear after an investigation by the NYPD, and classes and labs are running as normal.
Access was restricted at Palladium and Silver halls during sweeps by the authorities.
NYU reports that, “One email contained a bomb threat on Palladium, and another included a threat to space within the Silver Center. The emails contain offensive language toward the LGBTQ+ community; and similarly reprehensible anti-Black, anti-Asian, Islamophobic, antisemitic, and anti-Jesuit targeted commentary.”
The university says if anyone receives a threatening email they should not forward it. Call NYU Campus Safety immediately at 212-998-2222. And as always, anyone sees anything that may be a threat to safety, call 911.

Meantime, Villanova University in Pennsylvania also received a similar threat, although it is not yet confirmed to be connected.
The university said a threat of violence was made targeting one of their academic buildings.
Villanova said in a statement, “Early this morning, the University received a threat of violence targeted at an academic building. The FBI is actively investigating, and our Public Safety department has engaged with federal, state, and local law enforcement to investigate. While we are ascertaining the validity of the threat, out of an abundance of caution, the University will be closed today, and all activities are canceled. Residential students are advised to stay in their residence hall. Non-residential students should not come to campus. All faculty and staff should not report. Given the threat, there will be additional police presence on campus to ensure the safety of the community.”
Another update is expected later Thursday morning.
