Musician Louis Tomlinson is currently preparing for the release of his third studio album, which will be shared with fans in just a matter of days, which he’s ‘excited’ for
Louis Tomlinson has issued a powerful statement. The musician, who found fame as one-fifth of One Direction, will release his third studio album, How Did I Get Here? later this week and he’s struggled to contain his excitement.
Since he first found fame in 2010, Tomlinson, 34, has more recently found comfort and security in his music, having stepped away from the traditional boyband image. Now, his music is centred on genres he listens to and takes inspiration from the likes of Oasis.
Today, the Doncaster lad confirmed the release of his latest single, Imposter, an indie pop song that instantly delves into the listener’s soul with its bassline and guitar riffs. Despite being one of the biggest names in the industry, Tomlinson admits he still suffers from imposter syndrome.

But just days before the release of his upcoming album, the rocker said on X, formerly known as Twitter: “Big day today! So excited to release Imposter, sets the tone for the record! Going to have one final listen through to the album before Friday’s release. Feeling really grateful and really excited! Thank you as always for the love.”
In another message, he said to his 28.8 million followers: “Going to need your help over the next few days to cut through the noise. Time to give this record the moment it deserves,” before adding: “Let me take this moment to say thank you to every single person that has supported me over the years. You are throughout this record and everything I do.
“This album would never have sounded the way it does without all the power and confidence you lot have given me. Thank, you, thank you, thank you! How did I get here?”
For the record, Louis continued to push himself, working in the countryside of the UK, before heading to Costa Rica last year. He said of Imposter: “Imposter was written in the jungle in Costa Rica. Conceptually, it leans into the idea of identity.
“It’s probably the most melodic moment on the record, I’m really excited for the world to finally hear it!” Reflecting on his album, Tomlinson said: “I sum up it as ‘The record I always deserved to make’. My bread and butter is the honesty. I genuinely wear my heart on my sleeve, and I hope it comes through in the music. I’m still learning and getting better as a singer and a songwriter. I find it impossible to be complacent; it’s not in my vocabulary. For the first time now, I’m allowing myself to be the artist I’d always hoped to be.”
Speaking in a new interview, Louis said that after his time in One Direction came to an end, he was aware that it’s often one or two people from the band who become successful, not all members.
“That was really scary, because I was never going to put myself in that group of two ever,” he commented to Billboard. But while he’s extremely open about not enjoying the previous rounds of promotion, this time around, Tomlinson has finally found happiness in the campaign trail.
“[I’m] really willing to show it off, and I feel really good about that,” he added. But after his most recent tours, Louis has found himself a lot more confident. He told the publication: “I think what I love about those live moments is doesn’t really leave any room for any kind of self-doubt or anything like that.
“And I definitely struggle with that post the band, but from being in those live spaces and delivering night after night, that it’s like an undeniable feeling, you know? So I just, I’m coming into this record with a different kind of feel, like revitalised in my confidence. It’s a nice feeling.” Later this year, Louis will embark on another headline tour across the globe.
Imposter is available to stream now. How Did I Get Here? is released via BMG on January 23.
